We will be covering two topics simultaneously to ensure your child has all the information they need to be successful on the SBAC (Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium). Starred Topics to the left have already been covered.  Below are the current topics of study:

Topic 3

Students will fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction;

They will be solve two steps word problems and use equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity.  Students will assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computations and estimation strategies including rounding.   

Topic 11

Students will sort and categorize polygons.  They will recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals.  They will partition shapes into parts with equal areas and express the area of each part as a unit fraction of the whole.  For example, partition a shape into 4 parts with equal area, and describe the area of each part as 1/4 of the area of the shape.
